Testimonials

Don’t just take our word for it

Henry Chiu, Director of Development & Communications

For three consecutive years, my team at North York Harvest worked with scott on our Annual Report. He turned briefing notes into a complex yet concise narrative about the challenges of combating food insecurity in Canada. We were impressed at how he went the extra mile in doing additional research to get our message across. He was professional, adaptable and always delivered on time. We look forward to working with him at alphabet street on future projects.

Robin Trott, Supervisor, Operations

When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, I supported the Ontario Ministry of Health in developing the contact training response and managing operations. I needed smart, responsive, humane people and scott’s abilities as a communicator stood out. Not only was he able to process the new health information that was changing daily, but more importantly, could explain it all clearly to new people as well. Throughout those first two waves of the pandemic, he was an essential member of Ontario’s team I could rely on.

Jefferson Darrell, CEO & Founder

After launching my own marketing consultancy, I asked scott to come on board as a writer, editor and JEDI consultant. I knew his writing skills were ideal for our DEI blog The Secret Sauce but I also knew he had the empathy and knowledge of the broader issues that would make him a good fit for Breakfast Culture. He’s been a fantastic advisor, written terrific pieces for the website and also polished my own work and others, making our whole team look great!

FAQ

You’ve got questions? We’ve got answers.

Our service is aimed in particular at self-employed, small entrepreneurs and medium-sized companies who need high-quality messaging but lack the time or employee capacity. We focus on the text so you can keep your eyes on the big picture.

Each is a step in the process. After the writing period of getting ideas down on paper, editing is the task of making sure those ideas are organized, well-defined and clearly communicated, then comes the copyediting and proofreading to eliminate technical mistakes. We can do any of these steps or all three; it's like having your car washed, dried and polished.

Tone is completely up to you. Check out our portfolio and you’ll see that scott’s style is generally an accessible “friendly yet authoritative” vibe but the writing can be more formal or less, depending on the needs of our clients.

While it varies depending on the difficulty on the material (a press release can be composed a lot faster than a technical manual), a decent rule-of-thumb for researched writing is about 200 words an hour. As with most things, however, a negotiated timeframe in advance always leads to the best results.

Like a lot of workers, writers are being told we’re about to replaced en masse with robots but we're not stressing. Generative AI is still a long way away from producing anything resembling any quality. Sure, a drive-thru cheeseburger will fill the void but fast food hasn’t eliminated chefs. Why spend an hour (or more!) fussing with AI prompts giving you plagiarized bafflegab when we have clever humans right here doing better work? Your clients will notice the difference.
